CLAMP TYPE ULTRASONIC FLOW METER

Our clamp type ultrasonic flow meter provides accurate, non-invasive liquid flow measurement using advanced transit-time ultrasonic technology. It is designed for reliable performance across a wide range of industrial applications, without cutting the pipe or interrupting the process.

Overview

The CTUFV4 clamp type ultrasonic flow meter works on the transit-time principle, measuring flow velocity by comparing the travel time of ultrasonic signals moving with and against the flow inside a pipe. The system uses externally mounted ultrasonic transducers, allowing measurement through the pipe wall without direct contact with the liquid. This makes it a practical solution for installations where non-invasive measurement, minimal downtime is important.

Non-invasive measurement

No pipe cutting, no process interruption, and no contact with the fluid.

Wide application range

Suitable for many pipe materials, pipe sizes and liquid types across industrial systems.

Flexible signal options

Supports 4–20 mA, OCT pulse, relay output and MODBUS RS485 integration.

Principle of Operation

This flow meter uses the transit-time method. Two ultrasonic transducers are clamped to the outside of the pipe. One transducer sends an ultrasonic signal and the other receives it. The system measures the difference in travel time between signals moving downstream and upstream. Because the flowing liquid affects the travel time, the meter calculates flow velocity from this difference and converts it into an accurate flow measurement.

Installation Guidance

For best measurement performance, the pipe should be completely full and the fluid should be relatively clean or contain low levels of bubbles or solids. Proper sensor alignment and spacing are important for accuracy. As a general recommendation, install one transducer with approximately 10D straight pipe upstream and 5D downstream, keeping sufficient distance from valves, bends and other pipe discontinuities. Where a liner is used, the liner specification should also be entered during setup.

Operating Conditions

  • Fluid temperature: -40°C to 180°C
  • Electronics box temperature: -20°C to 80°C
  • Turbidity: less than 10,000 ppm
  • Velocity range: 0 to ±10 m/s
  • Humidity: 90%
